Whale Watching in Ballina and Byron Bay
Join us to get up close and personal with the Whales in the warmth and comfort of our boat (SeaHunt). Tours are conducted daily during the Whale Watching season of June to November. With eight years Whale Watching experience our local guide Lee knows the best spots with Whale sightings being as close as 2 metres away from the edge of the boat. It is also common to see many Dolphins playing in the waves around Ballina and Byron Bay.

Tour Departure Times
Ballina Ocean Tours run tours every day during the whale watching season (June-November). Departure times change depending on the time of season and the weather. Please call 0408863999 for Daily Tour details.

Tour Duration
A the start of the season we will be doing one trip per day with a minimum of 2 hours and up to 4 or 5 hours. Why the difference in time, well if the Weather’s good and the Whales are performing on the day your with us we will be staying longer. What does that mean to you, more time to get that special experience with the Whales. As the season progresses and the numbers of whales increase (example mid June through July August) we will do two trips during these periods of two and a half to three hour tours. Always check with our office to find out what’s going on.
Tour Size
Tours are small and personal at around 9 per tour (maximum of 9)
Tour Plan
Byron Bay is the most easterly point of Australia this means that the whales come in very close contact with the land. At Ballina Ocean Tours we opperate our tours between the ports of Ballina and Brunswick Heads. With Ballina being just 30mins south of Byron Bay and facing south east, this makes it the perfect corridor for Whale sightings. On their migration up the east coast of Australia the whales tend to hug the coast quite strongly between Ballina and Byron Bay on their northern journey, on the southerly journey the whales stop to play in the bay with their calf’s. Allowing for many photo opportunities of Mum and Calf playing in the sun. This means that you the passenger only have a short boat ride before coming into contact with the Whales. Example get in the boat and drive out the bar and bingo your right next to a whale.
Audio
Our boat is equipped with a hydrophone that allows you to listen to the Humpback whale song as they play beneath the waves. The Whales develop a unique song for each migration making your Whale Watching trip a truly special moment.

The boat operates daily depending on weather conditions. At Ballina Ocean Tours we try to ensure that we are taking you out in weather conditions that are comfortable to go Whale Watching in.
